In an era defined by rapid technological advancement, it is no wonder that artificial intelligence has emerged as a transformative force across various fields such as fintech, banking, retail, and recently education. From personalized learning experiences to administrative efficiency, Artificial Intelligence tools have been deployed in learning institutions across the globe with over 60% of educators using AI in their classrooms according to Forbes Advisor.
Despite AI’s popularity in the educational landscape especially with Open AI’s ChatGPT becoming a constant helper with students’ assignments with over 100 million users according to UNESCO, educators and experts are skeptical about Artificial Intelligence taking center stage and instead predict it will play a supporting role in the teaching process assisting educators with administrative tasks hence the time spent on those tasks can be focused on the personalized interactions with students.
This rapid uptake illustrates the openness educational institutions have toward incorporating artificial intelligence into their curriculums which is why Strathmore University’s @iLabAfrica hosted a benchmarking meeting with Mastercard Foundation and Caribou Digital to interact and understand how the different institutions are leveraging Artificial intelligence in their classes.
The benchmarking focused on integrating AI into Education with presentations from the @iLab research scholars on the various projects that leverage Artificial Intelligence to bring them to life. Some of the projects showcased were a chatbot AI-supported to summarize and recommend solutions based on data provided. This project was created to assist the insurance industry in processing the large amounts of data received promptly and making calculated decisions.
The other project was a website that capitalizes on AI’s power to assist in writing proposals for multiple research grants. These projects reduce the time spent on administrative tasks such as proposal grant writing so that @iLabAfrica and MasterCard can focus on making impactful changes.
The major discussion points were on integrating artificial intelligence into proposal writing, understanding how organizations harness artificial intelligence into their operations, and the use of artificial intelligence for education. The discussion greatly impacted all the parties as they exchanged ideas and shared positive criticisms.
’It was great to hear from our experts how they integrate AI in proposal writing and understand how organizations are harnessing artificial intelligence into their operations, and the use of artificial intelligence for education.’ Dr.Joseph Sevilla, Director @iLabAfrica emphasized the importance of adapting the education curriculum to suit the needs of the current generation while highlighting the steps @iLabAfrica is undertaking to ensure that its students are ahead of the curve such as the Masters in Data Science and Analytics program.
