The department and its partners collaborate to improve stakeholder outcomes in the multiple areas, some of which are: Cybersecurity, Business Intelligence & Analytics, Health, Communications, Civics, and Smart Cities.

The Global Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (GDSAI) Summit
The Global Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (GDSAI) Summit is Africa’s premier annual tech assembly hosted by @iLabAfrica Centre – Strathmore University. Now entering its highly anticipated 5th Edition, the summit serves as the ultimate nexus for visionary AI developers, global tech scholars, corporate leaders, and policymakers.
GDSAI was established to bridge the gap between complex technological theory and practical, local application. Moving beyond global tech buzzwords, the summit focuses heavily on real-world implementation, positioning Africa not just as a consumer of global AI tools, but as an active creator and developer of localized, high-impact tech solutions. Over the years, the summit has grown from a localized data science framework into a massive international forum drawing top-tier thought leaders and senior executives from over 20 countries.

The department has received several grants to work on climate, financial and immigration data, as well as consultancy projects in Health care, Agriculture, FMCG, Hospitality, Retail supermarkets, Banking and Insurance sectors.
The team is eager to fulfill one of its mandates to be an invaluable resource to businesses, governments and private entities by providing expertise in data analytics.
