In preparation for the Annual Global Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (GDSAI) Summit Strathmore University in partnership with  Nation Media Group (NMG) formalized their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), a significant move aimed at strengthening the ties between technology and the media industry. This partnership marks a new chapter in fostering innovation, advancing educational opportunities, and creating synergies that benefit the youth in the broader media landscape.

This collaboration promises to utilize Nation Media’s influence as thought leaders in society and @iLabAfrica’s expertise in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence to bridge the knowledge gap between the youth and industry in using technology to solve real-world problems. “Strathmore University and Nation Media Group are very good at what they do; when we come together we are unbeatable in what we can achieve.” Monicah Ndung’u said as she expressed the value of the collaboration. Furthermore, the collaboration focuses on capacity building, information dissemination, and creating tangible outcomes.

The signing of the MOU  ahead of the Global Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Summit taking place on 14th-15th November 2024, further cements the summit’s theme, ‘Unlocking the Power of Big Data to Shape the Future through Innovation.’ as it will focus on platforming the youth and their ideas on a global stage placing them in front of various levels of policymakers, academia, the industry, and the audience. @iLabAfrica Director, Dr. Joseph Sevilla said, “Data is the new frontier” He reiterated how artificial intelligence has changed from being a tool only used by major corporations to an everyday tool used by the general public.

This collaboration sets the stage for a pre-summit hackathon that will be the first of its kind to tap into the skills of young people and bring them into the discussion on the power of big data and AI in solving global problems using local solutions. The hackathon invites media enthusiasts, scholars, and professionals across various industries and developers to participate and will be held on November 11th, 2024 with a focus on revenue generation, audience engagement, and emerging technologies. ‘ The hackathon is a pedestal for better things to come with the potential to be part of the annual summit agenda achieving greater heights each year.’ Dr. Abraham Ngetich, Data Scientist @iLabAfrica Strathmore University.
