Introduction

The Green Tech Hackathon brings together student innovators to co-create tech-driven solutions
for their community’s pressing challenges in the green economy.

The Green Tech Hackathon 2026 is open to:

  1. University & TVET Students in Kenya
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited University or TVET institution.
  • Teams must consist of 2–5 members.

Lecturer Nomination Requirement

  • Each team must be nominated by a university or TVET lecturer who will act as an academic endorser.
  • Lecturer nomination must be submitted at the time of registration.

Team Composition

  • Interdisciplinary teams (mix of IT, engineering, business, agriculture, environmental studies, etc.) are encouraged.
  • Teams must identify a Team Leader as the main point of contact.

Idea Scope

Proposed solutions must fall under at least one of the official hackathon tracks:

  • Carbon Monitoring and Reduction Strategies – Solutions that track emissions and support actionable steps to lower carbon footprints.
  • Circular Economy and Smart Waste Solutions – Solutions that promote reuse, recycling, and sustainable waste management.
  • Climate Data, Awareness, and Green Financing – Leveraging data, education, and finance to accelerate climate action.
  • Sustainable Transport and Logistics Systems – Greener mobility options and eco-friendly supply chain models.
  • Water Stewardship and Climate-Smart Agriculture – Conserving water resources while supporting resilient, sustainable farming.
  • Teams must be available to fully participate in the virtual bootcamp and in-person final pitching event at Strathmore University.
  • Gain hands-on experience tackling real sustainability challenges.
